FAQs

what do you do?

The focus on obedience training and behaviour modification. We aim to build your dog’s engagement with you, regardless of the environment. We teach you how to effectively shape the behaviour you want out of your dog, then use the principles of operant and classical conditioning to reinforce good behaviour and correct bad behaviour. Over time we challenge your dog’s commands with duration, distance, and a variety of distractions until you have a reliably obedient dog.

How does a Board & Train Work?

During a board and train, your dog would stay at our facility for an extended period of time (minimum of 21 days). The duration of their stay depends on your training goals, and issues you’re currently experiencing with your dog.
Your dog will be trained 2-3 times daily by a trainer that will focus on the specific needs outlined during your orientation. Any updates will be provided online through our Board & Train software, where you will have a chance to check-in on your dog’s progress during their stay.

NOTE: A Board & Train stay is a small part of your dog’s training journey. After their stay, plenty of homework will need to be done to ensure that your dog’s training breakthroughs are not only maintained, but developed further!

how does Group training work?

We train on a large farm field. Clients drop in for their bookable sessions, and use our facility to work through commands with their dog. During your 30 minute session, one of our trainers will assist in polishing technique, address any questions/concerns you have about your dog, and give you further instructions when you and your dog are ready to progress further.
We train in a group environment because it best simulates a real world environment. Instructors will use their own dogs to act as safe distractions for your animal, as well as toys, bikes, cars, or any other trigger that your dog may experience.

why areN’t Your Group Training PAckages Smaller?

Our board and train programs range from 21 days to a couple months at a time, because your dog is in an environment where they are constantly being shaped and trained by dog trainers, who have thousands of hours of experience in dog handling, obedience, and behaviour modification.

Group Training, on the other hand, focuses on teaching the handler (dog owner) how to handle their dog as a dog trainer would, and teaches the trainer the universal principles that guide every method behind balanced dog training.

In addition to the time and effort it takes to build a direct relationship with your dog, proper handling is a skill. Just like any new skill, you need time, a patient coach, and a willingness to persevere through the plateaus of learning. We find that our program timelines allow our members to not only learn, but develop confidence when handling their dogs. Our hope is that after your time with us, you not only understand what to do to train your dog, but why you do it. When a student understands the fundamental principle of our method, they can use that understanding to inform their decision making when responding to any behaviour their dog shows them.

when is my puppy old enough to begin training?

Puppies are learning from their environments from the day they are born. From meeting their mother and siblings to going to their new home and family, there’s a lot going on. We usually look to introduce structured training no earlier than 12 weeks of age, and by this time all necessary shots should be taken care of.
